Responding to criticism

How do I feel about the work I produced?

I think that the work I produced is interesting and it's something different to what everyone else in my group was doing. I think that I could of made my work better if I had enough time to add the finishing touches to it. I would of liked to make it perhaps a bit longer and using the green screen effect change the background so it's more exciting and appealing.

My video responses:

Looking at these comments a lot of the people that have viewed my animation like it and think that it is well made and looks very creative.

The comment from Sally Leishman says 'I would change it to make it longer with a longer storyline' and I agree with her. I was trying to make a more longer and interesting storyline but because of the lack of time I had to cut it a lot shorter than I had originally planned.

In my blog the first storyboard that I started out with lasted 47 seconds long and then by the end the animation had turned into 23 seconds including the title and credits.

The comment from R. Welsh says 'the only suggestion I would have would maybe to include better music' which I think is a fair comment. Not everyone can like the same music but personally I think it fits the video as I wanted it to. The music is fast paced just like my video.

R. Welsh also commented saying that he liked the introduction and the credits. They were really simple to make and I think I could of made it better but I'm glad that one of my audiences responses like it.

This is part of the title that he was referring to where the words come onto the screen to match what the lyrics are saying.

This is also a main part of the introduction that he talked about where the window opens to show the creatures looking into which then goes into the storyline of the angel and devil getting prepared to fight.

My credits that he is referring to is really simple and each line pops up at a different time.

R. Welsh also comments saying how he likes the colours and how the characters look like Nicki Minaj.

These are the bright colours that I used for my extravagant characters.

I think that the feedback that I got is fair and I agree with a lot of what they are saying.
Looking at the feedback, if I was to complete this assignment again I would make sure to make the storyline more interesting and longer.

I think this a video that is pretty similar to what I was going for because it uses bright colours and it's a girl singing towards a music video. I think that mine is animated more smoothly and she uses some still pictures but it suits the video.
Also her main character looks similar to mine.
This is her main character:

Final Animation

This is the final video from this assignment.
I still had some more things I would of liked to do with it but to meet my deadline I had to leave it how it was.

Programs used

When creating my final piece I used mainly two programs. Sony Vegas Pro and Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Sony Vegas
I used this program to put all the final images together. This program also helped me edit the song down as well so I only had the pieces that I actually needed. Using this software it was also easy to add the wings behind the characters at the final moments of the video, to do this I simply had to 'mask' around the character and then put the wings behind them.
The reason I put green backgrounds on all my images is so I can use a tool called 'Chroma Key' which is basically a 'green screen' tool and give my images more creative backgrounds.

Adobe Photoshop CS5
I used this program to create all the images that I have drawn for my animation. The main tools that I used from this program are the pencil tool, blur tool and eraser.
The pencil tool was used to draw the images and also to put colour and detail into the drawings.
The blur tool was used to make the edges of the drawing look darker and this helped it stand out more.
The eraser tool was used to remove any mistakes I made.

For my drawings before colouring it took 3 layers and then after the colouring process I used about 9 layers.

First Draft

Here is the first draft of my work.

Things that I am changing are going to be:

-Finish colouring the images that aren't coloured
-Make the writing and window image at the beginning look better

Update

Here are some of the uncoloured images that I drew on photoshop, they will look more appealing after the colouring is added.

For the end clip to make it faster to complete I had a single image of each of the girls and then put some animated wings behind them.

Update

This is some of the progress I've done so far. This is a series of the images I've had to draw to create a certain part of the video. This is what the images look like before I colour them and make the character look like a devil.

Also at the beginning is what the video is slowly starting to look like. I've had to shorten the song down a bit from what I had originally planned so that I could meet my deadline since drawing the images is taking quite a long time.
